It’s a daring and controversial bit of stunt casting, but after making quite an entrance, McGregor maintains an impressive level of hyper-intensity throughout. Indeed, everyone involved, from great supporting actors like Lukas Gage (The White Lotus) to the bands who perform at the road house bar while mayhem erupts all around them, bring their A-game to a remake that constantly does its best to surprise and delight. WASHINGTON (AP) — The House passed legislation Saturday that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away anytime soon. It’s fair to say the release of this remake of the much-loved but thoroughly ludicrous 1989 Patrick Swayze action vehicle has taken a controversial turn. Director Doug Liman is not happy the movie is going straight to Prime Video without opening in cinemas first and has not been shy in telling the world of his frustration, while star Jake Gyllenhaal says it was always meant for streaming.

A standalone bill with a shorter, six-month selling deadline passed the House in March by an overwhelming bipartisan vote as both Democrats and Republicans voiced national security concerns about the app’s owner, the Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd. Nantucket real-estate attorney Steven Cohen counts at least "five or six hot spots" for erosion around the island that threaten existing structures, including the local airport. He estimates one or two homes every year have to be moved or demolished because of the phenomenon, which threatens nearly every aspect of life on the island. UA entered into a “literary purchase agreement” with Hill doing business as Lady Amos Literary Works Ltd., his personal company. The copyright assignment for all rights to the screenplay was struck with Lady Amos and Hill, the lawsuit said. The house has four bedrooms and bathrooms, a den with wall-to-wall built-in bookshelves and a backyard with a pool and large patio. One of the largest homes Frank Lloyd Wright ever designed has been listed for sale for $4.5 million in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Created for his cousin and the publisher of the Tulsa Tribune in the 1920s, the 10,500-square-foot house known as Westhope is on the U.S. The home’s exterior was made using 5,200 panes of glass and it includes five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a concrete pool. The last home ever designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, also known as the Circular Sun House, is up for sale at $8.9 million in Phoenix. Plans for the home, which is built into a hillside, were on Wright’s drawing table when he died in 1959 and the building was finished in 1967 by Wright's apprentice.

That’s where he’s found by Frankie (Jessica Williams), who owns a place in the Florida Keys that’s being overrun by a bad element, and away we go. The only straightforwardly good things in Road House ’89 are Sam Elliott, the fan-favorite “Be nice” speech, and maybe the corrupt local gangster played by Ben Gazzara living his best life driving his fancy car in lazy S shapes down the main road singing “Sh-Boom! With the sale now finalized (due to a non-compete agreement, the Sofers can’t say who they sold to or what will occupy the old Cody’s space) and more free time on the horizon, Stan and Suzy Sofer are already searching for their next father-daughter business venture. As the climax with a helmeted assassin (Jessica Rothe) draws near, there is one admirably unforeseen twist up the film’s blood-smeared sleeve. I’m not sure it’s a good thing, though, that it takes so long to get there. For this boy to kill the world, the movie shouldn’t need to kill our patience first.
The 3,000-square-foot residence includes curved walls, built-in furnishings, three bedrooms, three baths, a library and a media room. Over the years, the former mortgage company partners had been through the wringer while navigating the volatile restaurant industry, dealing with everything from hurricanes to oil spills. But it was a change in ownership and a variation from Cody’s long-held standards, coupled with the immediate and lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, that caused the father and daughter to start considering an exit.

Since mid-March, TikTok has spent $5 million on TV ads opposing the legislation, according to AdImpact, an advertising tracking firm. The ads have included a range of content creators, including a nun, extolling the positive impacts of the platform on their lives and arguing a ban would trample on the First Amendment. The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. The decision by House Republicans to include TikTok as part of a larger foreign aid package, a priority for President Joe Biden with broad congressional support for Ukraine and Israel, fast-tracked the ban after an earlier version had stalled in the Senate.

A Blogger.com blog, Abandoned Explored, posted about the house in 2015, documenting their exploration of the house and lot. In a 2020 comment on the post, one user speculated that Lovell Place at Cornerstone Dr., L.L.C. might use property for "yet another generic strip mall" but guessed the group might be waiting to purchase a vacant lot adjacent to the house. The Nantucket Current reported that there was nowhere else on the lot, which is surrounded by water, to move the home after so much of the land was swept away by rising sea levels. Shelly Lockwood, a real-estate agent on Nantucket, told Business Insider that the land was too unstable to hold the equipment needed to move the house elsewhere on the island and that, due to strict zoning rules, it's unlikely Sternlicht will be allowed to rebuild on the property.
With four bedrooms and three baths, the 2,762-square-foot dwelling has numerous skylights, shiplap ceilings and terracotta tile floors. A home designed by Ricardo Legorreta is listed for $47 million in the Brentwood Circle neighborhood of L.A. Listed by Hollywood producer Joel Silver, known for his work in films like "Road House" and "Predator," the 25,000-square-foot home includes eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Its unique features designed by the Mexican architect include an atrium entrance, reflection pool, library, gym, sauna and movie theater. The home has been re-listed and steadily dropped in price from $77.5 million since 2019. “The market value of a house like this may be slightly lower than the asking price, but people who really love a Frank Lloyd Wright house won’t care,” Peters said of the Norman Lykes House.
Whatever, the finished film undoubtedly looks resplendent on any sized-screen — and it’s perfect for a super-fun night in. More damaging than underwritten character dynamics is the overall tone of “Road House,” which needed to be far more tactile to be effective. This is a movie in which you need to feel the heat of the Florida Keys, the impact of a punch, the thud of a body hitting the floor. Oh, the over-crafted noises are there, but it’s all so obviously created in a CGI lab. It’s weird because the fight scenes that are quick—like the first one with the bikers, when Dalton disarms a man by making him unable to shoot, have an immediacy that works.
But more impressive than his sculpted body, Gyllenhaal manages to find nuance in what is, on paper, a fairly standard, testosterone-fuelled figure. As cheesy as it may sound, this Dalton really is a new kind of action hero, as caring and sensitive as he is ruthlessly violent when he needs to be. Yet the star is also believable as a fighter who’s clearly having a great time showing the local thugs what for, in a series of brilliantly choreographed mass brawls. Somehow, we entirely buy the idea that this guy can single-handedly hospitalise half a dozen bikers while sustaining only minor injuries himself. As silly as it sounds, that push-and-pull between realism and cartoonish insanity that rests in McGregor’s performance is indicative of the quality of the movie overall. Gyllenhaal is making one movie—a story of an almost-Zen fighter pushed past his breaking point—while people like Magnusson and McGregor lean into the ridiculousness in the other half.
